Ballistic Composites are raw materials used in several military applications such as helmets, law enforcement vests, and body and vehicle armors. These materials absorb the impact energy caused by explosives. The main objective of ballistic material is to develop protection systems that are both effective and lighter in weight.

The use of Ballistic Composites, which are light in weight, enables military personnel to wear them conveniently for longer duration. They provide high level of protection by offering high resistance against ballistic impacts. Ballistic armor is fabricated from the mix of composite materials, steel, silica, and ceramics. To increase the quality of the final product, most armor must be bonded and cured in composite curing autoclaves.

However, the physical and mechanical properties of ceramic and ceramic-based composites depend on processing. The bulletproof vest, or a ballistic vest, is an item of body armor that helps absorb impact and reduce or stop penetration to the torso from firearm-fired projectiles and fragmentation from explosions.

Body armor, or a suit/coat of armor, is protective clothing designed to absorb or deflect physical attacks. Ballistic armor, also known as bullet-resistant or bulletproof, is the most common type of body armor. Ballistic Composites are lightweight materials with high-impact resistance and damage tolerance. They must also be strong and durable. Thus, they are usually used in armored vehicles, rifles, and other military equipment. These materials are not without their challenges. They must meet certain specifications in order to meet their mission requirements.

As armed conflicts continue to escalate around the world, the demand for Ballistic Composites is growing at a rapid pace. Next-generation weaponry systems are increasingly incorporating these materials for enhanced combat efficiencies. For instance, in December 2020, advanced composites manufacturer XTEK announced that its US subsidiary, HighCom Armor Solutions, secured export licenses for ballistic products to Mexico. HighCom expects its exports orders for personal protective armor products to swell to about US$ 65 million over the next 10 years.
