Basalt Fiber is a natural material made from the extremely fine fibers of basalt, a volcanic rock composed of minerals such as olivine, pyroxene and plagioclase. It is similar to fiberglass as it has better physicomechanical properties. It is also considerably cheaper than carbon fiber.

Basalt Fiber is an environmentally friendly, sustainable material that is produced by melting basalt at a temperature of 1500 degree Celscius and spinning the fine fiber into fabric. Its composition typically consists of 43-53% silicon dioxide, 12-16% alumina, 6-18% iron oxide. Unlike some other fiber materials, basalt fiber does not cause cancer and is non-toxic.

Basalt fibers are resistant to high-energy electromagnetic radiation and ultraviolet radiation. They maintain their properties even at low temperatures. They also have superior flame resistance, air quality, and worker safety. These properties make basalt fibers superior to their glass counterparts. Basalt Fiber has a variety of applications, it can be made into a fine textile. Textile concrete made from basalt fiber is corrosion-resistant and malleable. Basalt fiber can be substituted for glass fibres in textile concrete, which improves its application fields.

Basalt Fiber has numerous beneficial properties for engineering applications. Its atomic weight is larger and its density is higher than fiberglass fibers. Basalt fiber is non-toxic. It can be used as a reinforcement for composites and is utility-friendly. Basalt fibers can be used in a variety of shapes, including rods, bars, and textile fabrics.

During the fabrication process, Basalt Fiber were processed by two steps: first, they were surface modified with acetone, followed by further modification with KH550. This process allowed better interaction between the fibers and the resin.
