Amniocentesis Needles Are Sterile And They Are Required For Withdrawing Amniotic Fluid

Amniocentesis Needles

Amniocentesis Needles are used to remove a small amount of amniotic fluid to perform a prenatal test or diagnosis. The amniotic fluid contains cells that carry genetic information about the baby. This information can be analyzed to determine the probability of having certain diseases or defects. It is also used to detect infection in the fetus.

In amniocentesis, a thin hollow needle is inserted into the amniotic sac to extract the amniotic fluid. The procedure is typically performed between 16 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. During the procedure, an ultrasound device is used to capture an image of the fetus and vagina. An antiseptic solution is then used to clean the abdomen. If the ultrasound scan indicates a defect, the fetus is examined by a doctor. Afterwards, the fluid is withdrawn manually or with vacuum bottles. Depending on the size of the pregnant woman and the number of weeks her pregnancy has progressed, the amount of fluid withdrawn will vary.

Most of the Amniocentesis Needles that are used in this segment are between 100 and 150 mm in length. This is the most appropriate size for most patients. However, larger-bore needles are used when the BMI is higher. They may help to facilitate the transplacental passage of the amniotic fluid. They can lead to increased intrauterine bleeding.

Aside from the benefits of this procedure, amniocentesis is also performed to identify and treat certain physical and genetic abnormalities in the developing fetus. The use of Amniocentesis Needles is expected to increase in the coming years. Nevertheless, the lack of awareness regarding the technique of amniocentesis can be a major barrier.

There is an increase in pregnancy complications such as miscarriage, high buildup of amniotic fluid and birth defect. Moreover, there have been many technological advancements in the amniocentesis process.
